Islanders preview: The clock begins ticking on John Tavares’ prime

The face of the Islanders, captain John Tavares, has said this repeatedly throughout training camp — and he’s right.

“We really haven’t accomplished a whole lot.”

Tavares and the Islanders were riding high after making the playoffs in 2013, pushing the top-seeded Penguins to six games in the first round before losing. But they followed that up with a dud of a playoff-less season, and last season, their final season at Nassau Coliseum, they battled for the Metropolitan Division lead before faltering down the stretch and falling short in an anticlimactic Game 7 against the Capitals in the first round.
