Islanders hang tough before heartbreaking overtime loss

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Islanders suffered a heartbreaking overtime defeat Friday night when Rasmus Ristolainen scored 42 seconds into the extra period to give the Sabres a 3-2 victory.

Ryan Strome and Alan Quine scored for New York, and Jean-Francois Berube made 34 saves in his first start of the season for an Islanders squad that now has lost four in a row.

Johan Larsson and Matt Moulson also scored for Buffalo, and Ristolainen had his team-leading 19th assist to help the Sabres win their second straight game. Robin Lehner made 33 saves.

Ex-Islander Kyle Okposo, the Buffalo points leader, assisted on Ristolainen’s goal his first game against his former team.
