The Giants have given their punter the boot.
Steve Weatherford, one of the team's most popular players due to his countless interactions with fans and his jacked-up physique, was told of his release from the team on Friday, a source said. The source also said the Giants are trading a late-round draft pick to the Steelers to fetch Weatherford's replacement, Australian Brad Wing.
The move should not come as a shock to those who closely parse the words of Tom Coughlin. Just this week he noted that Weatherford was competing for his job, and not just with Robert Malone, the other punter on the roster.
