Bleacher Report ran a piece on Friday, Dec. 28, in which they talked with Fox Sports’ NFL rules analyst Mike Pereira about the state of officiating in the NFL. Saints fans can relate to the grumbling this season but they’ve been both the victims and beneficiaries of bad calls.
Pereira, in this piece, pointed specifically to what he calls “over-officiating” in the league these days. There are simply too many calls being made. And that’s noticeable to avid and casual fans alike. It’s certainly a huge turnoff for a league attempting to gain a broader international audience when those market are used to soccer matches that don’t even involve commercials, much less the level of game-stoppage we’re seeing in the NFL this year.
