COSTA MESA, Calif. -- New Orleans Saints center Max Unger took the field Thursday wearing full pads and a helmet.
Before the Saints and Los Angeles Chargers held their first of two joint practices at the Jack Hammett Sports Complex, Unger lined up with his fellow New Orleans centers and snapped the ball several times, mostly to backup quarterback Chase Daniel but a few to starter Drew Brees.
Ultimately, Unger didn't practice, so he remains on the physically unable to perform list due to his foot injury. But, as the Saints hope to have their starting center back before the end of the preseason, his participation on Thursday -- however minimal -- was a good sign.
