KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the 2016-17 Team Academic Excellence Award winners Wednesday morning, with the University of New Mexico men's basketball team collecting another academic achievement. This is the second straight year the Lobos have earned the award.
The honor recognizes outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2016-17 season. The Lobos finished 2016-17 with a program record 3.05 GPA for the academic year.
The honor places the Lobos in an elite class academically. This year, the Lobos are one of two Mountain West teams to receive the honor, with Boise State also making the list.
