Blaine Byron, a Maine graduate, became a free agent -- like Kerfoot -- on Aug. 16 when the Pittsburgh Penguins lost his rights. Now the Devils are one of several teams reportedly interested in adding the left-shooting center.

Byron was a sixth-round pick by the Penguins during the 2013 NHL Draft, where he went 139th overall.
