NEWARK -- Nico Hischier was a Devil for less than 24 hours before general manager Ray Shero called him with a request. He needed a scouting report.

Shero and the Devils were winding down at the NHL Draft on Saturday, about to make their first of three seventh round picks to finish their two days of selections.

The GM was eyeing a Canadian defenseman, Jocktan Chainey, with the 191st pick. Chainey just happened to play junior hockey with the Halifax Mooseheads and Hischier. So Shero got Hischier on the horn.
