Landmark BU study: CTE found in 110 NFL players' brain tissue

A degenerative disease linked to sports-related head injury was found in nearly every single brain donated from former NFL athletes, according to a new study from Boston University Medical School.

A post-mortem test for chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE. came up positive for 110 of the 111 brains donated from NFL players.

In addition, the condition was found in the brains belonging to nine of 14 semi-professional players, 48 of 53 college players, and three of 14 high school players. Seven of eight tested positive from the Canadian Football League.

The paper was published today in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
