Everything in sync for Patriots' trio of Rutgers alums on defense

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- A few years back, if a player hoped to land with the New England Patriots, the joke was pretty straightforward: Enroll at Rutgers University. At one point in 2013, there were eight Rutgers alums on the team’s 90-man roster.

Bill Belichick took some ribbing for that because Rutgers isn’t a college football powerhouse, but as is often the case, the Patriots coach is now the one having the last laugh.

In Saturday's 34-16 victory over the Houston Texans, the Scarlet Knights' trio of safety Devin McCourty, cornerback Logan Ryan and safety Duron Harmon each had an interception, which led Belichick to repeat in his postgame news conference, “A big day for Rutgers, a big day for Rutgers.
