Breaking down Rob Housler’s 2017 deal with the New England Patriots

On January 19, 2017 Rob Housler signed a one-year deal with the Patriots. He will receive a $775,000 salary and has a $5,000 offseason workout bonus. His deal contains a split-salary provision that will lower his salary to $443,000 if he is placed on Injured Reserve. His $775,000 salary will count $615,000 against the 2017 cap since his deal qualifies for the Minimum Salary Benefit deal. $615,000 is the minimum salary for a player with two years of NFL experience. Housler has five seasons. None of Housler’s money is guaranteed so there will be very little dead money if Housler is released during roster cutdowns.
