Steven M. Sipple: Husker walk-on Peetz quietly rises in NFL to become Raider QB coach

Jake Peetz is headed home for the evening, maneuvering through Bay Area traffic after a day of work.

His schedule is tight, his profession demanding. So, calling him on his drive home is a good time to catch him. On this recent spring day, he's talking to a journalist from Lincoln, and a flood of memories flow through his mind.

He recalls a critical "life" discussion with Bill Callahan during the spring of 2004. A Nebraska reserve long-snapper and defensive back, Peetz was set to graduate in December. Callahan, the Husker head coach at the time, wondered what Peetz had planned for his life.
