Scarlet Knights nip Huskers in the ninth

Rutgers saw its first two hitters whiff in the bottom of the ninth against Nebraska closer Chad Luensmann.

But Luke Bowerbank singled, RJ Devish walked and when Christian Campbell grounded to third Husker third baseman Jake Placzek barehanded the grounder, and the Scarlet Knights scored two runs to take a 3-2 victory over the Huskers Friday at Bainton Field.

Nebraska rode the arm of Derek Burkamper through seven innings and appeared in shape to grab a victory in Piscataway, New Jersey.

Burkamper (5-1), a junior from Muscatine, Iowa, allowed just five hits, walked four and struck out five in his second consecutive impressive start.
