Meyers will forgo senior season

A source close to the Nebraska baseball program confirmed Wednesday night that Meyers has agreed to terms with the Houston Astros, ending his three-year Husker career and beginning a journey through professional baseball.

Meyers was the first Husker picked in last week’s MLB Draft, going to the Astros in the 13th round as the 391st overall pick.

A finalist for the John Olerud Award, given annually to the nation’s top two-way collegiate player, Meyers batted .297 and led Nebraska with 20 stolen bases while patrolling center field.

On the mound, the 6-foot, 194-pound Omaha native led NU with an 8-2 record while pitching a team-high 84 1/3 innings as Nebraska’s Sunday starter and finished the season with a 3.
