There was a bump in the road, but if anybody on the improving Nebraska pitching staff has found cruise control, it’s junior Derek Burkamper.
“He is pitching unbelievable right now,” said NU sophomore pitcher and right fielder Jake Meyers. “He set the tone for everything we’ve done down the stretch.”
The right-handed junior (6-2, 2.77 earned-run average) shut down Nicholls State, Rutgers, Michigan State and Indiana in four of his last five starts.
He was dazzling in limiting (then) red-hot Michigan State through five innings in a Husker win in East Lansing. He kept Indiana quiet on Thursday, allowing just two hits in 7 1/3 innings.
