Big innings early spark No. 8 Beavers in rout of Huskers

Oregon State scored early and often in a 10-1 decision over Nebraska Thursday in Surprise, Arizona, in the Big Ten-Pac-12 Challenge.

The No. 8-ranked Beavers (5-0) scored four runs on six hits in the first inning and added two more runs on two hits in the second.

NU starter Matt Waldron, a sophomore, was limited to the shortest outing of his career, 3 1/3 innings, after he allowed 10 hits and seven runs.

Luke Heimlich choked off the Husker bats through seven innings. The OSU lefthander allowed six hits, walked one and struck out four.

"He pitches to both sides of the plate and got on top of some pretty good stuff," NU coach Darin Erstad said in his postgame radio show.
