USC Players Erupt in Cheers After Hearing Clay Helton Was Named Head Coach

On Monday, the Southern California Trojans removed the interim tag from Clay Helton's title and officially named him the head coach after he led the team to a Pac-12 South title this season.

It looks like that was a popular move with the players.

USC athletic director Pat Haden broke the news to the team during a meeting Monday morning, and when the players heard, the room went wild. Between the "Helton" chant and the mobbing of the coach, it's clear this is what the players wanted.

Now that he is no longer auditioning for the job, Helton can take a deep breath and focus on Saturday's Pac-12 Championship Game against the Stanford Cardinal.
