Missed dunk at UMass Lowell shatters backboard

Shattered backboards don't appear as often as they used to in the late 70s, when Darryl Dawkins broke two in one season. Or even the late 80s when Pitt's Jerome Lane "sent it in."

But every so often, a player demolishes a backboard like UMass Lowell's Dontavious Smith did Tuesday during a game against Division III Wheelock College.

Not only did Smith miss the dunk, play was suspended for more than an hour.

Here it is ... Dontavious Smith with a big steal before SHATTERING the backboard on his dunk attempt!
