Top 10 College Football & Basketball Coaching Duos Right Now

Most colleges are either known as "football schools" or "basketball schools," but very few have two coaches that make both programs elite. Here are the top coaching duos college football & basketball:

10) Baylor Bears

Football: Art Briles

Basketball: Scott Drew

Briles took Baylor from consistent losing seasons to two straight Big 12 titles, while Drew took the Bears basketball program from one of the biggest scandals in NCAA history to two Elite 8 appearances and one Sweet 16 in the past four years.

9) Oklahoma Sooners

Football: Bob Stoops

Basketball: Lon Kruger

Stoops led the Oklahoma Sooners to more BCS games than any other program under the old system and has won at least 10 games in four of the past five seasons. Kruger is the only coach that has ever led five schools to the NCAA Tournament, and this year marks his first time in the Sweet 16 as Oklahoma’s head man.

8 ) Louisville Cardinals

Football: Bobby Petrino

Basketball: Rick Pitino

Even though Petrino has major character concerns, he is a really good football coach. In his five total seasons at Louisville, they've finished the season ranked in four of those seasons, and he turned Arkansas into a top-five team. Pitino's resume speaks for itself, making seven Final Fours and winning two national championships.

7) Notre Dame Fighting Irishncf_g_ndcoah_cr_576

Football: Brian Kelly

Basketball: Mike Brey

Kelly has led Notre Dame to five straight winning seasons (something that hasn't been done since Lou Holtz), including an undefeated regular season and appearance in the national championship game just two years ago. Brey has guided the Irish to one ACC championship and six NCAA Tournament appearances in the last eight years, including an Elite 8 appearance this year.

6) Duke Blue Devils

Football: David Cutcliffe

Basketball: Mike Krzyzewski

Duke basketball owns the school, but Cutcliffe is starting to make people recognize the football program. The Blue Devils have won 19 games over the past two seasons, have made three straight bowl games, and won the ACC Coastal Division in 2013. Coach K has the most impressive resume of anyone on this list, being the winningest coach in college basketball history with an NCAA-record 12 Final Four appearances and four national championships.

5) Auburn Tigers

Football: Gus Malzahn

Basketball: Bruce Pearl

Both coaches haven't been head coaches at Auburn for very long, but they've already had distinct impacts. Malzahn won an SEC title and led the Tigers to the national championship game in 2013, while Pearl has reached the Sweet 16 in four of his eight seasons as a head coach.

4) Michigan Wolverineshi-res-05b2d502dcb6b2135412eebc8e2c49d9_crop_north

Football: Jim Harbaugh

Basketball: John Beilein

Harbaugh took Stanford from a one-win team to the Pac-12 power we know today and led the San Francisco 49ers to three NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl appearance in four years, so it's safe to say he'll have success at Michigan, too. He joins Beilein, who led Michigan to an Elite 8 in 2014 and a national championship game appearance in 2013.

3) Arizona Wildcatspi-arizona-greg-byrne-rich-rodriguez-sean-miller--052814.vadapt.620.high.0

Football: Rich Rodriguez

Basketball: Sean Miller

"Rich Rod" has won 26 games in his three seasons as head coach of the Wildcats, and has turned them into a top-10 team. Miller has had even better success with the basketball program, recording three Pac-12 championships and three Elite 8 appearances.

2) Ohio State Buckeyesrn_ia_thadmatta_urbanmeyer_ms_576

Football: Urban Meyer

Basketball: Thad Matta

Meyer has the best college football resume on this list, having won three national titles during his career while leading the Buckeyes to a perfect 24-0 Big Ten record during his three seasons at the helm. Matta has led Ohio State to two Final Fours and has recorded three 30-win seasons.

1) Michigan State Spartansstatic1.squarespace

Football: Mark Dantonio

Basketball: Tom Izzo

Dantonio has turned Michigan State's football program from an afterthought to one of the elite programs in the country. The Spartans have had back-to-back top five finishes and have recorded 11 wins in four of the past five seasons. Izzo has made seven Final Fours since taking over the head coaching job in 1999, and has won one national championship.
