Son of Navy offensive coordinator likely needs heart transplant

Ivin Jasper attended Navy football practice on Monday afternoon, mostly to temporarily take his mind off the serious medical situation involving his son.

For a few hours at least, Jasper was able to use football as a distraction from the fact the youngest of his three children has been hospitalized for more than two weeks with a rare heart condition.

Jasper was back in his element on Monday — barking instructions at the Navy offense and blowing the whistle. The veteran offensive coordinator congratulated starting quarterback Zach Abey for making the right decision on a goal-line play and called for players to perform up-downs as punishment for doing something wrong.
