Head coach Ed DeChellis inadvertently discovered a strategy that helped Navy close the regular season on an upswing.
Throughout his 22-year career, DeChellis has always started all his seniors in the final regular season home game. So it was no surprise that Hasan Abdullah, Dom Antonelli, George Kiernan and Ryan Pearson were all announced as starters for last Wednesday’s matchup with Bucknell at Alumni Hall.
What was surprising was how well that unit, which included junior forward Evan Wieck, played during a seven-minute stretch to begin that contest. Kiernan, Pearson and Antonelli all drained 3-pointers to stake the Midshipmen to an early 10-point lead.
