Dan Hawkins was recruited to the Naval Academy for wrestling. Midway through his sophomore year, the Annapolis resident realized he needed to turn his full attention to the academic and military side of the institution.
"I had to get my grades up and focus on being a good midshipman," Hawkins said.
Hawkins still needed to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity so he turned to a sport very similar to wrestling. He joined the Navy boxing team in January and suddenly finds himself fighting in one of the most prestigious events on campus.
"I started boxing four weeks ago on a whim and I've done pretty well," Hawkins said.
