The NHL was recently disappointed that it received only two bids for new expansion teams. Those came from Quebec and Las Vegas. While those might be two nice places for the NHL to land, they were really hoping for bids from Seattle and possibly as second team in Toronto. It had been reported earlier that 16 groups had requested applications. One way or another, with a $500 million minimum expansion fee for each team, the NHL and commissioner Gary Bettman would like to continue to move in the direction of NHL expansion.
