UFC 216 Scheduled for Sept. 9 in Edmonton

The Ultimate Fighting Championship will hold its first-ever event in Edmonton on Sept. 9.

The Las Vegas-based promotion announced Thursday that UFC 216 will take place at Rogers Place, making Edmonton the 10th Canadian city to host the Octagon. The 20,000 seat venue opened in 2016 and is home to the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers and the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings.

The release issued by the UFC hinted that the card will include a championship bout. No fights have currently been confirmed.

“Edmonton is a great sports city and what we’ve been able to accomplish, and the energy and excitement we’ve been able to bring to Rogers Place is truly remarkable,” Bob Nicholson, Oilers Entertainment Group CEO & Vice Chair said.
