Russian wrestling champion hospitalized after brawl involving coach & politician

Aleksandr Bogomoev, a freestyle wrestling champion from the 2015 European Games in Baku, was hospitalized after interfering in a fight between his wrestling coach and a parliamentarian from the State Duma.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday April 23rd in the rural locality of Ust-Ordynsky, Russia, began in the form of a conflict between freestyle wrestling coach Bair Ilyin and deputy of the regional politician Anton Asalhanov. While the details behind the confrontation remain unclear, reports suggest that the offenders were intoxicated at the time. Verbal jousting evolved into physical assault with life-threatening weapons.
