Morning Report: Conor McGregor targeting September for Floyd Mayweather fight, says it’s ‘close’ to done

The crossover superfight between undefeated boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor is getting ever closer to becoming a reality.

McGregor made headlines on Friday night while attending the professional boxing debut of his friend, Irish Olympic boxer Michael Conlan. That evening, McGregor confronted members of the boxing media sitting ringside at Madison Square Garden yelling that he would shock the world by knocking out Mayweather in a boxing match, promising that everyone would “eat their words.”

But McGregor didn’t stop there. After the outburst, the UFC lightweight champion spoke with The Los Angeles Times where he elaborated on his outburst, stating that the fight was “close” to done, that they were looking at September for a possible date, and that Mayweather should be scared.
