Dana White: If Robert Whittaker’s hernia acted up during UFC 234 fight, ‘it could have been fatal’

According to UFC president Dana White, his middleweight champion may have dodged a bullet.

Robert Whittaker was set to defend his title against Kelvin Gastelum in the main event of UFC 234 in Melbourne, Australia, but on Saturday he was forced to withdraw from that bout after being diagnosed with a hernia that required immediate surgery.

On the UFC 234 preliminary card broadcast, White spoke to Megan Olivi about the severity of Whittaker’s condition.

“He’s in the recovery room with his wife and his family,” White said.
