The now 27-year-old attacker started his professional career with DC United, signing his first professional contract at just 15 years of age. After three seasons in the nation’s capital, he made his way to Europe, playing in Portugal and Turkey.
After a somewhat lackluster European adventure, Adu made his way back to the US, signing with the Philadelphia Union a few seasons ago. He showed some flashes of potential in Philadelphia, but was eventually released, and signed with a Finnish club for parts of two different seasons. Once again he most kept the bench warm.
Once released by the Finnish club, he yet again made his way back to the US, this time to the Tampa Bay Rowdies of NASL.
