Brighton want Portland Timbers' Liam Ridgewell - sources

Portland Timbers defender Liam Ridgewell is a loan target for Championship side Brighton, sources have told ESPN FC.

Ridgewell, who joined the Timbers in June 2014 from West Brom, captained the team to their first MLS Cup success this season.

The 31-year-old enjoyed a loan spell at Wigan Athletic last season during the MLS off-season and Ridgewell is thought to be keen on another temporary move back to England.

Promotion hopefuls Brighton are in the market for a new left-back after losing Gaetan Bong to injury.

Sources said Brighton boss Chris Hughton is a big admirer of Ridgewell having worked with the defender during his time in charge of Birmingham and he sees his experience as a key addition to his side's promotion push.
