Brett Lawrie sends flowers to fan hit by his broken bat

Brett Lawrie offered a gesture of support this week to the woman who was struck by his broken bat last Friday at Fenway Park.

The Oakland A’s third baseman sent flowers and a note Tuesday to the hospital room of 44-year-old Tonya Carpenter, who is recovering from her injuries at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

“Sending my thoughts and prayers,” Lawrie’s note read, according to WCVB-TV in Boston.

The Carpenter family responded with a message of its own.

“Brett, (the flowers) are the only ones by her side,” the message read, via WCVB.
