With all due respect to Mark Teixeira’s recent homer binge, Anthony Rizzo’s sudden speed, and Kris Bryant’s arrival, I’m declaring Jimmy Paredes the MLB headline of the last week. Once a fairly well-regarded prospect who played a big part in Lance Berkman leaving Houston, Paredes’ progress had seemed to stall at the AAA level. In each season from 2011-2014, Paredes had gotten a chance to prove his impressive minor league offensive numbers could translate to the big league level, and each time he’d left us underwhelmed (table below).
