Mizzou officially adds Shields to basketball staff

COLUMBIA, Mo. • The Missouri basketball team confirmed on Friday what was reported here last week: Former Arkansas-Little Rock coach Steve Shields is the new special assistant to head coach Kim Anderson.

In Thursday's news release, Mizzou also answered the next obvious question: What does a special assistant to the head coach do?

"Shields will assist with non-coaching duties that relate to the program’s management," according to the news release. "Among his many duties, Shields will monitor and track Mizzou’s recruiting efforts, oversee the program’s budget, help scout future Tiger opponents and assist in coordinating Mizzou’s academic advancement and community involvement.
