McElwain, Pinkel talk SEC East showdown

COLUMBIA, Mo. • Missouri walloped Florida 42-13 last year in Gainesville, Fla., and spoiled the Gators’ homecoming weekend. A year earlier, Mizzou drubbed Florida in Columbia, a 36-17 win that wasn’t as close as the score indicated.

As they prepare for Saturday’s game at Missouri, the Gators are 5-0 under first-year coach Jim McElwain, ranked No. 11 and coming off a four-touchdown demolition of Ole Miss. Florida is a five-point favorite.

McElwain tried his best Saturday to cast the two-time SEC East champions as favorites for the 6:30 p.m. homecoming game.

“Based on history I’m sure they’ve got pretty good confidence that they’ll put it on the Gators,” McElwain said Wednesday.
