COLUMBIA, Mo. • One of the greatest NFL careers from a former Missouri Tiger is officially over. San Francisco 49ers five-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Justin Smith has retired, the team announced Tuesday.
Smith, 35, a native of Holts Summit, played for the Tigers from 1998-2000 then left school a year early for the 2001 NFL draft. The No. 4 overall pick to Cincinnati, Smith played the first seven seasons of his career with the Bengals before coming to the 49ers as a free agent in 2008.
Smith’s career went from solid to spectacular with the move.
