COLUMBIA, MO. • When he stepped on Simmons Field a dozen years ago as the head coach of Vianney’s baseball team, Steve Bieser knew it felt right. The home of the Missouri Tigers doubled as the host of the MSHSAA baseball championships. The first-year coach led the Golden Griffins to the Class 4 state title, then returned two years later in 2006 and won it again.
With each visit he knew he belonged — and would some day return.
“I wanted to be back on this field and I wanted to be coaching on this field,” he said Friday, with Simmons Field behind him.
