Missouri State's quarterback competition may be getting a little more interesting.

The Houston Chronicle reported on Wednesday that Rice University quarterback J.T. Granato will transfer to Missouri State and be eligible immediately.

Chuck Pool, assistant athletic director at Rice, confirmed Thursday that Granato asked for his release with the intent to transfer.

Missouri State officials would not confirm the quarterback's transfer on Thursday.

Granato appeared in one game for the Owls in 2016. He didn't throw a pass, but he had one rush for a four-yard touchdown.
