Springfield man, 85, takes gold at National Senior Games

Sorry, but J.D. Brockman doesn't have any secrets to share.

One of the fittest 85-year-olds in Springfield has done it the old-fashioned way: exercise and a balanced diet.

Brockman stays healthy enough to chase around his 13 great-grandchildren, and last month his fitness paid off in the form of three medals at the National Senior Games in Birmingham, Alabama.

Brockman took gold in the javelin and hammer throw and finished second in his division for the shot put.

"I have been active all my life," Brockman said. "I used to run every morning, for years.
