Opening-day trout angler gets his birthday wish at Roaring River

ROARING RIVER STATE PARK—Shrill whistles and light, freezing mist at the crack of dawn kicked off Missouri’s opening day of catch-and-keep trout season Friday.

For angler Mike Luttrell of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, a good deed landed an exceptionally nice birthday present at Roaring River State Park near Cassville.

Flipping a black-and-yellow jig, he hooked and reeled in a beautifully-hued, 3-pound rainbow trout.

“When I got it in I saw it was also hooked by another fisherman,” Luttrell said.
