No. 1 American male tennis player returns to where it all began

Wyatt Wheeler/News-Leader

Jack Sock spent his day before his appearance with the Springfield Lasers walking around the Cooper Tennis Complex, reminiscing about his early career.

Sock won his first career national open championship on the same courts when he was 11.

He said winning that tournament put him on the national stage. Since then, Sock has reached the top of that stage by becoming the No. 1 American male tennis player, and he’s collected a gold medal along the way.

While he’s been in the Olympics, one of the biggest stages in tennis, competing for America, on Friday night he was a member of the Springfield Lasers, playing on the same court he played on when he won his first title.
