As St. Louis Cardinals look for reinforcements, eyes turn to Springfield pitcher

Harrison Keegan/News-Leader

Despite being under .500 four months into the season, the St. Louis Cardinals remain within striking distance of the National League Central title.

There is speculation the Cardinals might be "buyers" and try to acquire more talent from other teams before the July 31 trade deadline.

But acquiring proven players would mean giving something up.

Pitcher Dakota Hudson, who is in the midst of a dominant season in Springfield, could be a prospect that other teams covet.

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported this week the Cardinals have an interest in Miami Marlins outfielders Marcell Ozuna and Christian Yelich, and the Marlins recently sent a top executive to watch Hudson pitch for the Double-A Cardinals.
