Mississippi State QB coach Brian Johnson is Houston’s new offensive coordinator

Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen is looking for a new quarterback coach after Houston announced Tuesday that Brian Johnson has taken the offensive coordinator position on Major Applewhite’s staff.

Johnson, who grew up in the Houston area, spent the past three seasons as the Bulldogs’ quarterback coach and is credited in helping with the development of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and current Bulldogs standout Nick Fitzgerald.

Johnson was recruited to play quarterback at Utah by Urban Meyer and Mullen during their time at Utah. Johnson was 26-7 as the Utes’ starting quarterback, then was a Utes assistant for four seasons.
