Mississippi State hires ex-Iowa State assistant as safeties coach

Mississippi State has hired Maurice Linguist as its new safeties coach. He takes over for Tony Hughes, who left in December to become coach at FCS member Jackson State.

Linguist had spent the past two seasons as Iowa State’s secondary coach, but was not retained by new Cyclones coach Matt Campbell. He is the third new member of Mississippi State’s coaching staff, joining cornerbacks coach Terrell Buckley (hired away from Louisville) and defensive coordinator Peter Sirmon (USC).

“His knowledge of the game is exceptional, while his teaching and communication skills will resonate well with our players,” Bulldogs coach Dan Mullen said of Linguist in a release announcing his hire.
