Former Ole Miss DB Anthony Alford promoted to Toronto Blue Jays

A former top recruit in the SEC with past experience at quarterback just got called up to the majors — and it’s not Tim Tebow.

Former Ole Miss defensive back Anthony Alford was promoted to the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday, the latest player to make the jump from SEC football to the big leagues in baseball.

Alford, who transferred to Ole Miss from Southern Miss in 2013, played in the secondary at the start of 2014 before leaving the program to pursue baseball full-time. He tallied six career tackles at the school.
