Wild, Erik Haula headed for NHL contract arbitration

Erik Haula will soon have a new contract with the Wild.

Barring an agreement before Friday morning, Haula, a restricted free agent, and the team will enter arbitration at 8 a.m. CT Friday in Toronto.

If it reaches that, an independent arbitrator will decide a contract value for Haula, 24, somewhere between the $775,000 the team is offering and the $1.2 million Haula's side requested. The arbitrator will make a ruling within 48 hours of the hearing, but the two sides can continue negotiating.

After a ruling is announced, though, the Wild would have to either accept or reject the contract offer, which could make Haula an unrestricted free agent.
