Wimmers, who was the No. 21 pick in the 2010 Draft, replaces righty Jose Berrios, who was optioned following Thursday's game. Left-hander and Canadian native Andrew Albers also was called up Friday to replace Tyler Duffy, who was optioned.

Wimmers, 27, was a combined 2-2 with a 3.97 ERA and 11 saves in 45 relief appearances with Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Rochester this season after initially struggling in pro ball.

After throwing just 15 2/3 innings the year he was drafted out of Ohio State, Wimmers opened the 2011 season by giving up four runs on six walks and three wild pitches without giving up a hit.
