Pirates' ninth-inng homer trumps Twins' rally as Glen Perkins' struggles continue

Target Field's announced crowd of 30,795 stood to cheer reliever Brian Duensing's attempt to get out of a bases-loaded, eight-inning jam in a 3-3 game Tuesday.

Gregory Polanco then hit a bases-clearing double, the Pirates opened up a 7-3 lead and many fans fled for the exits.

It looked like a big mistake.

But the Twins roared back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie it 7-7.

But a wrenching way, the patient fans eventually had left unsatisfied, too.

Twins closer Glen Perkins gave up a go-ahead solo homer to Jung Ho Kang in the ninth as Pittsburgh beat Minnesota 8-7.
