Minnesota Twins: Paul Molitor recalls trying season in Seattle

SEATTLE -- Paul Molitor has spent only one season with any organization other than the Twins since the start of 1996.

That was the Seattle Mariners, for whom he served as the big-league hitting coach on a 99-loss team in 2004.

"It was educational. It was tough," Molitor said. "Only job I was ever fired from. My only attempt really to try to teach hitting on a full-time basis. Didn't do too well, obviously."

Manager Bob Melvin was fired at season's end, and Molitor was not among the coaches retained by Melvin's successor, Mike Hargrove.

"Loved the facility and the city," Molitor said.
