Gophers football: Berkley Edwards bulks up for camp

CHICAGO -- Redshirt sophomore running back Berkley Edwards has added a dozen pounds to weigh about 202 pounds entering fall camp, Gophers coach Jerry Kill said Friday at Big Ten media days.

Edwards, who also has run track at Minnesota, is one of the fastest Gophers but needed to bulk up to be considered a possible every-down back.

"I'm very excited about Berkley Edwards because he's got to get over (just) speed," Kill said.

Edwards rushed 30 times for 140 yards and two touchdowns last season.

Edwards is in a stable of running backs, including senior Rodrick Williams Jr.
