Nieuwenhuis, Brewers agree to 1-year deal

The tender deadline is 7 p.m. CT on Friday. Players that are non-tendered at that time become free agents. Players who are tendered are considered signed for 2017, at a salary to be determined via the arbitration process.

Terms of the Nieuwenhuis deal were reported by MLB Network's Jon Heyman. It's a split contract that would pay $257,000 in the Minors.

Originally claimed off waivers from the Mets on Dec. 23, 2015, Nieuwenhuis hit .209/.324/.385 in 392 plate appearances for the Brewers last season, playing mostly center field. Those plate appearances were evenly split between Miller Park (199) and the road (193), but the results were dramatically different.
