Nathan Kirby, the 40th pick in draft by the Brewers, signs for less

The Milwaukee Brewers signed their highest remaining draft pick Friday when they came to terms with University of Virginia left-handed pitcher Nathan Kirby, the 40th player taken in June.

Friday was the final day to sign players from the 2015 draft. According to various reports, Kirby had agreed to a signing bonus above the recommended slot of $1,545,400, but it was reduced to $1.25 million because of an undisclosed medical concern.

Kirby missed much of his junior season at Virginia because of a strained muscle behind his pitching shoulder, but that healed and he pitched the final two innings of the championship-clinching game of the College World Series.
